1762 - 1796
The golden era of the Russian Empire was ruled by an Empress, Catherine II. Analogous to Peter the Great, Catherine II had possessed many ambitions to modernise Russia with the influence of the Enlightenment from other areas in Western Europe. These influences led to the continuity of the reliance and advancements of arts, science and philosophy. During this era, the political and social systems in the Russian Empire had also been changed in which the people begun to value reason and analysis of every situation. Being led by a powerful Empress, Catherine the Great had also expanded the Russian Empire through conquest, colonising lands and signing agreements with other countries. These factors made the reign of Catherine the Great a period of Russia’s Golden Age.
